The Brief

Rapid scale-up of a high-performing engineering team.

With most organisations adapting to remote working, amarti was inundated with work by large companies looking for help delivering even bigger projects. That’s where we came in. In order to scale, amarti needed the right talent to deliver complex technical projects on time and within budget.

What We Did

The challenge was securing the best possible talent to work on projects remotely in an unprecedented time.

In order to scale quickly as a young business in what is arguably the most competitive industry (technology) they needed to deliver on what they promised – powerful technical solutions, smoothly delivered.

Amarti needed to deliver excellence to scale as quickly and strongly as possible, for that they needed the perfect talent. We needed to ensure that the people we were onboarding onto the projects were passionate, reliable, great at what they do.

We began the process with a briefing by amarti Director and Head of Delivery Amardeep Sirha. Here we spoke about the vision of the business over the next three years, the technology capabilities they were looking to build and the culture they were looking to create.

Partnering with a business from the very start represents a great opportunity to set a growth strategy focusing around hiring and retention.

We decided that for the first month of engagement we would have a dedicated interview day that tech intellect would facilitate. It was decided this would be conducted every Friday and Amardeep would not spend time reviewing CV’s, tech intellect would book them directly into her diary. Our main USP is saving time to hire, and this includes the time spent reviewing CV’s. If time is spent to qualify a live requirement, then it is our opinion that every CV sent should result in an interview.

Five interviews were conducted each day at set timings. This worked well for Amardeep as it allowed at least half an hour after each interview to write down her immediate feedback and action any urgent emails. It also worked well for candidates as they were able to organise their diary for an interview without going back and forth. Candidates were told feedback would come no later than 14:00 on the following Monday so knew where they stood regards other opportunities. Tech Intellect and Amardeep had a recurring feedback meeting in the diary every Monday at 10:30 where offers were discussed and made over lunch.

How we did it

The interview days were a great success. 20 overall in the first month resulting in 8 hires, 50% of which were available within a two-week period allowing amarti to prove instant capabilities and build strong relationships with new customers under huge pressure due to the impact of the pandemic. The following month 6 further hires were made, 3 within the first week, ensuring tech intellect had delivered on the initial 10 hires in just 5 weeks from engagement.

Fast forward 18 months to the beginning of 2022, tech intellect we were asked to implement this model on a bimonthly basis – growing the team at amarti perpetually.

Word began to spread in the world of tech and amarti quickly became a well-known business with a number of household-name clients – teaching us that a small fish in a big pond can still make big waves.

This process of rapid growth demonstrates that with the right partner, scaling a start-up in a short period of time is very possible . As we continue to work to provide amarti with unparalleled talent, the company keeps on growing. We’re proud to be an integral part of their success.

Within tech, we’re experiencing incredible competition for talent. This is something most SME’s and large corporations know to be true. There is a drought of technical professionals, so securing the best ones is no easy feat. Most of the best candidates, already have great jobs. So, convincing them to up and leave can be tricky – but not so much when you know what motivates them or if you have a rapport with them already.
